The Story of Touch Drawing
A Natural Way to Draw!

Feb. 20, 2009, 7-9 PM at East Shore Unitarian - North Room
12700 SE 32nd, Bellevue (I-90 at Richards RD), 98005.

Be ready to discover a simple yet profound process to use for artistic expression and personal development guided by noted Touch Drawing founder Deborah Koff-Chapin. In an atmosphere that is conducive to deep and authentic expression, she will guide you through the process with non-intrusive suggestions and live music (heartbeat drum, voice, Tibetan and crystal bowls, chimes). Feel as if your soul is pouring through your hands.

This is an AHP multi-modal expressive arts experience. Touch Drawing itself draws upon visual, kinesthetic and tactile senses. When you reflect upon your own completed drawings you witness a visual record of your inner process. This one-day workshop will be an unforgettable learning and an opportunity to develop an artistic skill and therapeutic approach to healing.

Whether you are a therapist, health care professional or simply seeking a meaningful and profound method of creative expression, this one-day workshop will be an unforgettable learning opportunity for accessing your creativity and a therapeutic approach to deep healing.

Touch Drawing can be developed into an art form, a spiritual practice, used for your emotional healing, stress relief or applied in therapeutic settings.

No artistic confidence is necessary!
Create wonderful spontaneous impressions of
your own mental processes, bypass the analytical aspect of the mind, and better understand your own internal emotions. Learn an art therapy process for yourself or that you can teach to others. Be surprised by the creative energy, transformation and insight. Touch Drawing has endless applications as a tool for therapy, creativity and spiritual awareness.

Touch Drawing

MORE INFO

This workshop offers participants a complete introduction to Touch Drawing with a means to access support later. It is of relevance to artists seeking to deepen their personal expression, therapists, educators, healers and anyone wishing to explore their depths and free their creative energy. Use this process in various therapeutic, wellness, and even hospice settings as well as for your own healing.

Neither talent nor skill is needed to implement Touch Drawing, but it can also be developed using this process. In morning and afternoon drawing sessions, you will create two sets of approximately 20 to 30 drawings. Process your own transformative experience through writing and expression and a multi-modal expressive art therapy. Share in a safe a small group atmosphere, integrating what you learn about yourself and the process.

Learn to use Touch Drawing as an integrative sensory approach (kinesthetic, tactile, visual) and an expressive language for processing psychological issues. Discover the mechanics of non verbal emotions from a hands on continuous production of drawings that reflect ongoing internal process. Become fluent with the modality which engages the right brain and then integrates with the verbal analysis of the left brain.

Gain a better appreciation of your self development and more confidence in your own artistic ability as well as feel empowered to work with your emotional life through creative modalities. Understand the benefits of using this creative therapeutic approach with patients and clients as well as for stress relief and wellness care among their colleagues. Access ongoing support via an invitation to free membership in the Online Community of the Center for Touch Drawing.

Fee: $95. $85 for AHP members. Payments for workshops include a $10 materials fee. Portland includes breakfast, lunch and snacks.

MORE DETAILS

ONE DAY WORKSHOP RETREAT OBJECTIVES

1) Participants will be able to understand Touch Drawing as an integrative sensory approach (kinesthetic, tactile, visual) and an expressive language for processing psychological issues. Deborah will share how she developed Touch Drawing and refined it as a therapeutic tool and art form. She will teach via demonstration of the process, question/answer, and non-invasive directives during the experiential sessions. Participants in turn will use materials in their own continuous production of drawings that reflect ongoing internal process.

They will become fluent with the modality of touch drawing as well as understand its potential as a therapeutic tool as well as its potential use with patients in occupational therapy. Applications in such settings as hospice and as a wellness tool for staff will also be discussed.

2) Through hands on work with materials, participants will understand the experiential aspect of Touch Drawing as a modality that engages the right brain and then integrates with the verbal analysis of the left brain. Through other expressive modalities such as writing and movement, plus sharing and group discussion they will process their own transformative experience and be able to describe their integrative experience to others. They will leave with a deeper understanding of multi-modal expressive art therapy and its potential. By the end of the workshop they should understand the benefits of using this creative therapeutic approach with patients and clients as well as for stress relief and wellness care among their colleagues.

3) From reviewing their own process in producing drawings, participants will have a more holistic understanding of the simplicity and depth potential of the technique. They will understand that neither talent nor skill is needed to implement it, but that it can also be developed using this process.
Participants will leave with a better appreciation of and more confidence in their own artistic ability as well as feeling empowered to work with their emotional life through creative modalities. They will be encouraged to explore their won ways to integrate the process into their particular professional context, understanding how to facilitate the process for healing and self-development. They will receive access to ongoing support via an invitation to free membership in the Online Community of the Center for Touch Drawing.
